Claire who was our test subject was impressed by the packaging. It was easy to open and clean. She found it to be one of the most simple and quick pieces of baby equipment to set up. She tested it on some rough terrain and was impressed with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel double buggies are designed as single pushchairs. Some models can be modified to accept an additional seat by using adapters. There are also models let you include a ride-onboard for older children who want to walk but require some help.

If you're looking for a lightweight option that is ideal for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to maneuver and comes with a deep basket that has plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins from at birth and will accept two car seats, or a carrycot with a seat. The seats have to face forward and there is no room to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will need a sidepack.

If you like to take off-road trips, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great choice. It's a side-byside model with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy on the market. It's much easier to get through narrow doors, on public transport and to climb over and up kerbs. It also has a handbrake that is attached to the handlebar that can be adjusted for more security and safety.

The UPPAbaby Vista 2 double is a lightweight option that can be used by twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats can be reclining in multiple positions with UPF 50plus sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun doesn't get into your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple with the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack' board for mobile older kids.

The iCandy Orange is one of the most popular double buggies that are available, thanks to its superb comfort. It's a true all-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension to make light work of bumpy surfaces. It can be used in 30 seating configurations, and comes with an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older children who prefer walking plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back of the seat to allow for better visibility.

Alternately, the phil&teds dots is a brilliant single buggy from day 1 that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or strollers 3 wheels!) in multiple configurations. This is especially useful when you have a child in your car. The frame can be fitted to a wedgie, which allows for optimal lie-flat positioning. Also, car seat adapters that can be used with many brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a triple wheeled buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children are able to push it. It is essential to have a smooth ride, as babies can feel every bump in the road. This is particularly the case if you're driving on rough terrain like grass or unpaved roads. Some models have locking front tires that assist in maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.

Some models have air-filled tyres that are ideal for all-terrain riding, however they are susceptible to punctures. Make sure you have a spare set of tyres inside the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, which are specifically designed to handle bumps and can be less prone to punctures, but you might feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back when you decide to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 through its trials with her newborn and 3 wheel baby strollers year old, and found that it was able to handle difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over pavements that were bumpy and grassy dirt tracks, cobbles and cobbles effortlessly and was easy to maneuver around corners and get up and down kerbs. Folding

A 3 wheel pushchairs wheel double buggy folds quite neatly for storage. There are models that fold flat, stand up (as as if they were a pushchair) and others that pop out to reveal a more umbrella-style folding with an operated break. The more wheels a buggy has, generally the more easy it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is one of the most comfortable double buggies to run with your kids. It has an adjustable front wheel that locks, which will help you maintain control over hilly or off-road terrain. It comes with a huge undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and a soft suspension to provide the most comfortable ride.

This is a very lightweight and compact model that can be folded by one hand, making it ideal for travel. It's compatible with numerous infant car seats, and comes with a handy undercarriage basket to store your shopping. It's not cheap however it comes with several notable features, like its one-click folding and many additional features, such as a bumper bar or raincover.

Storage

Many are awed by the storage capacity of the triple wheeled double buggy. Certain models, like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket and 2 handy zip pockets inside the hood to keep your phone and keys in reach. It is also designed to handle slightly rough terrain making it a good option for family walks or all-terrain hikes.

Other models, like the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of space and flexibility to transport twins or a child and a toddler. (This is made possible by their 'PiggyBack board'). It's the smallest side-byside double available. It also has some impressive features, such as LED lights for visibility which are located on each side of its frame to increase safety in low-light conditions.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a lightweight stroller that can hold twins from birth, and is world-facing with a lie-flat position, is something different. The frame's clever design expands to accommodate an extra seat, but it weighs just 11kg. This makes it easy to lift and move. It can also take a car seat or carrycot, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds and it future proofs your wallet since you don't have to buy a new buggy as soon as you get it.
