We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right home. They weighed storage capacity as well as layout, energy efficiency, and other features.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for an French door fridge costing this much. It also has a decent sized ice maker that is tucked away in the left-hand door, although it's not the biggest I've seen.

You can adjust the shelving in both compartments to create custom storage setup for the items you need to store. The GE PYE22PYNFS's interior design is stylish, too. The LED lighting is a nice feature, and the in-door storage bins feature the third shelf, which folds down to allow you to store large items. The drawers come with temperature controls so that you can set them for Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to shut and open however I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a all the features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and lets you manage your refrigerator from anywhere around the world. It also has many options for customization. It also gives you notifications when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill the option that is available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to set how many cups they want to pour out. It also has a countdown on the fridge's display to display how much water have left, but it's not as useful as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher longer and dual compressors to ensure maximum preservation of food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and produces the shape of a pyramid using only water. This refrigerator is ideal for a single household or kitchenette that needs a built-in appearance and top-of-the line food preservation.

The fridge was rated the best refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for various reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed more than a fraction - this is crucial to avoid freezing burn. The fridge's refrigerator section also performed well, reaching the temperature that was set for the initial setting within an hour and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our tests.

Bosch has a reputation for premium appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi as well as Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and control your fridge from your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive, but it comes with great features and capabilities for the price.

It is important to know the limitations of your fridge. It has a small shelf space, so you may require some creativity when it comes to storing large items. The shelves are also not resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp items. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they must be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

The freezer features thoughtful design elements, too, like sliding drawers to help you better organize the placement of your items. It also comes with a large bin that can hold plenty of frozen food and an container for storing ice.

Another great feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting, and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a nice way to control and monitor your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill food in this fridge as compared to other fridges we tested. This is likely due to the larger capacity.

Another issue with the door of this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However taller people have a hard time closing them without slamming them. It would have been better if they had a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the benefits of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with an efficient layout. It has a capacity that is above average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which helps make it a popular choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good choice if you want a French-door refrigerator that doesn't cost a lot of budget. It's a basic design that isn't as striking visually like some of the competitors but it does have enough features to make it a solid option. Its main feature is the temperature adjustable drawer that helps keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large ice maker and a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits above the two crisper bins, is another nice feature. This drawer lets you divert a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, which means you can keep food items that require special attention. This feature is adjustable using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different areas of the fridge. Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge didn't stray much from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a pretty good performance however it doesn't be among the top in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be paired with a smart thermostat to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's outside is made of stainless steel with a grey body that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
