The E10S, in contrast to less powerful models that rely on random bounce and turn methods for navigation, to map your surroundings in real-time, uses LiDAR. It can then create an intelligent, self-navigating route that is more effective. This is especially important for homes that have many rooms because the E10S will stay clear of areas it has already cleaned.

The Eureka app provides the highest degree of functionality as well as simple user interface. It lets you create and store maps, label rooms and define zones that are not allowed to be used and no-mop zones to stop the bagless cordless cleaner from accidentally going upstairs or into the cooking area. Manual control mode lets you to directly drive the bot around, and you can also set up cleaning schedules.

The SwitchBot Mini K10+

The SwitchBot Mini K10+ packs a lot of functionality into its tiny frame making it a great option for smaller homes and apartments. Its impressive cleaning capabilities earned it high scores in our debris removal and edge and crevice clean-up tests. We also found its navigation and mapping skills to be top-notch and it was able to avoid obstacles when moving furniture.

This robotic vacuum and mop is one of the few in its class to use LiDAR SLAM technology, which makes it capable of creating detailed maps of your home's rooms. It also has 10 flagship level sensors, so it can navigate even the tightest spaces. It is extremely efficient and requires very only a tiny amount of energy despite its advanced capabilities.

The application that controls the robot is well-designed and easy to use, with a clean interface. The main screen shows basic information, such as the status of the dust bin, mop and filter pad plate. You can also design highly customized schedules that set cleaning mode and generate reports within the application.

You can also set no-go zones which will stop the robot from entering specific areas of your home. This is a great way to keep your robot out of areas that are not safe for it. For instance, a pet area or the kitchen. The app will also help you keep the battery in check, ensuring it remains fully charged to ensure optimal performance.

After the robot has finished cleaning, it will return to its Station to charge. The station can be moved from room to room when necessary, but it's quite loud when sucking in what was collected and returning to the dock for charging.

There's some physical setup that you must do when you first take the K10+ out of its box to remove any foam padding that is left in crevices and gaps. It is also important to position the machine close to a power outlet. To connect to the app you will need an extremely strong WiFi signal. Accessories include a spare mop pad side brush, and filter that can be used as a spare. These accessories are great for the robot as they offer additional convenience and cut down on time spent changing the supplies.

The Shark IQ XL

The Shark IQ XL offers an impressive array of intelligent features and is reasonably well-built for less than $400. It's a better robot than the smaller RoboVac G30. It feels more comfortable to use and performs better on low- and high pile carpet. It also does a better job moving around obstacles like electrical cords.

Its battery life is outstanding and allows the unit to run in its high-suction "Max" mode for more than an hour. Its large bagless cutting-edge vacuums base station is also easy to clean - simply detach the side bin and empty it into an empty trash can - no need for special cleaning bags or extra hassle. The IQ's companion app lets you send it to specific rooms, resume a session from where it left off when it's required to charge a portion of the way through, and schedule multiple cleaning sessions in one day if you need to.

When we tested the IQ XL, it performed well on hard floors but was unable to handle carpets with medium piles that were prone to apprehension of larger crumbs and sometimes pushing debris into corners where it wasn't meant to be. The robot's side brush can occasionally fail to catch dirt or flick it away. It also navigates in straight lines rather than zigzagging like more advanced robots.

If you want the IQ XL to avoid certain areas of your home, you can draw zones that are not allowed to be visited by dragging boundary squares into the application. These boxes can be a challenge to draw and fine-tune. We prefer virtual walls.

Another feature we loved on the IQ XL is the ability to choose an Ultra-Clean mode that doubles the suction power of the robot vacuum self empty bagless and spreads its brushes across floors in the form of a crosshatch. This feature is particularly useful in areas with high traffic. However, we are disappointed that it's not available on the current models. You can set a schedule that will automatically trigger an Ultra-Clean cycle for any room within your home.

The Shark Matrix

Shark's ION series robot vacuums are a cut above the rest with their LIDAR mapping capabilities and self-emptying bases. The Matrix, on the other hand is a step further by offering a 2-in-1 vacuuming/mopping.

The Matrix is, like other robotic vacuums can be used to clean your floors using an upright that is traditional or equipped with a power pad that can agitate the floor and scrub it for a thorough cleaning. Alternatively, it can be used in a vacuum/mop mode which utilizes the same cleaning pad to simultaneously clean your floors and get rid of any stubborn dirt and stains. The powerful cleaning mode of the matrix is particularly effective on carpets, as it makes use of an array of grids to make multiple passes over dirt and debris to provide 30% better stain removal than Roomba robot vacuums.

The Matrix is also much easier to use than a modern Roomba. Shark's app allows you to create a spot-cleaning zone simply by draggin a rectangle into the tab you have designated. Roomba users must manually identify and create an area for cleaning. The Matrix also comes with an actual button to begin cleaning without opening the app.

The Matrix also comes with additional features that enhance the quality of life, including three suction power settings (normal Eco, high-power and "Max") and recharge and resume features that let it to pick up exactly where it left off, should it need to return to its dock. The battery life was a bit longer than the AI Ultra's and its overall performance in picking up debris from a variety surfaces was excellent.

The only drawbacks to the Matrix are that it drains its battery more quickly than other models, and that its cleaning of pet hair is a bit inconsistent. Still, this is a good choice for most homes, and the Matrix improves on the AI Ultra in several key ways. It feels considerably better built it recharges quicker, and offers superior debris pickup on carpets with low pile. Plus, its 'Eco' and 'Max' modes are a great improvement over the AI Ultra's 'Normal' mode.
