Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight areas.

For a smooth ride, opt for a pram with air-filled tyres and look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. They are susceptible, however to punctures. Make sure you have an emergency repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Recent figures have been released that show that the three-wheeled buggy - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sense is on the verge of disappearing. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider range of terrain, yet still look swanky and being easy to push.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy on the newborn baby and a 3-year-old child and found it to be very robust. It was able to handle cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasionally pumping) come with suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is a further factor to think about. You will want it to be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also need it to recline so that they can lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer a lie-flat option that allows the child to face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and walking in muddy areas. This buggy is ideal for a single child from birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for babies and toddlers until age 4 and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. The storage options are good as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets in the hood and an attractive pouch at the back of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels give your buggy more stability when driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for off-road buggies. They also make it easier to move the pushchair around tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that help you navigate around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is especially useful when you crash into the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheeler strollers wheel pushchairs come with air filled tyres which means they can be used on different terrains and are more flexible than four wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures, so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump in your bag.

Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to easily climb and descend kerbs. The buggies also come with suspensions that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or have to squeeze through narrow doorways while out and about. Many models have compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheel buggy can be more maneuverable for children. The way in which they are built ensures that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are incredibly maneuverable, making them ideal for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks or bumpy pavements, as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3-wheeler with her toddler, and she wrote: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate on rough terrain. The front swivel wheel was particularly useful." I was also awed by how well it coped with the kerbs, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or over uneven terrain."

The only drawback to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel stroller lightweight wheel buggy might make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should be aware of when you live in a city. If this is a problem, a 4-wheel buggy might be better for you.
