World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.
On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are various theories about how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory states that the item level is calculated using formulas that determine the value of an item's stats actually are. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real item level.
However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl because the level of the region the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the
Best item upgrade." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves increased by the player's skill.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes can provide the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.
Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges just like the other methods of rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. As with base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the chance of finding items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to
upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Furthermore some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can also affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects could be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the
item upgrader (
https://maps.google.cv/) CORE client config.
