Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing its base stats or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Items that have weak bases, like rings, can be upgraded into a stronger base. Items with strong bases, like eth Titans have little change in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They give you an attribute benefit, or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, found in loot, dropped by enemies or as a reward from missions or chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before you can upgrade.

In order to upgrade a weapon or piece of armor, the player must select it and then click on the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade stats will be and also the required component or material needed to complete the upgrade.

There are three kinds: universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, can be placed in any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are only placed in ascended gear or legendary equipment are exactly the same as jewels but have higher bonuses and cannot be placed in any other kind of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add a suffix at the end of item upgrader mod names. For instance, adding the suffix Glyph will transform a staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools, if a player replaces one glyph by another the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, with the exception of the inscriptions that can be swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant variations from earlier versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a set number of times before they're "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials required do not. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a handful of essential items and maximize their impact instead of spreading upgrade costs across several items.

If an item does not attain its maximum level, the NPC will give the player the option to transfer it to a different person and then re-infuse the item with a different set of upgrades. It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. Rerolling

Sets
