Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to mark the centennial of the company. Made from Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a flying "B" paperweight, a set of keys, and a brochure with never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre imagery.

Aesthetics

As a company that is primarily focused on design, Bentley takes its aesthetics extremely seriously. It shows in the precision position of its quilting, the selection of leather from cattle by-products, the timber from forests that are sustainably managed and the creative patterns on its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you take it in with its striking sculptural appeal and power through carefully curated lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever created. The rear tonneau of Continental GT, for instance included the largest piece of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this unique design, craftsmanship and attention to detail that has established Bentley as the world's most sought-after car brand. The company continues to push the limits with the latest technology and manufacturing techniques, such as the introduction of the digital instrument cluster and an electric tilt-opening rear glass sunroof, an artisan-made docking station for Apple iPads and electrochromic 'smart' glass that can be switched between opaque and transparent by a button.

Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019 100 years after it was founded. The marque, currently owned by Volkswagen on its own after years of tense relations with BMW and Volkswagen, has planned a range of special launches and events to celebrate this milestone. Before the pandemic planning took center stage, the marque had a number of special events and launches planned to mark the occasion.

Design

Bentley is a renowned brand for its extravagant and luxurious cars and even the keys are designed to make a statement. The Bentayga key is made from sterling silver and features the large 'B' symbol which lets everyone know that you drive a bentley car key. It's also engraved with the years 1919 and 2019, to commemorate the company's centenary.

The Mulsanne was redesigned and redeveloped by Bentley Mulliner, to be the ultimate Grand Touring bently car key. It comes with two pairs of rear seats that are designed to be reminiscent of luxury private aviation offering passengers unbeatable comfort and security. The unique heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system was designed to give every passenger the perfect temperature control.

The Mulsanne comes with a twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that produces 560bhp and 479lb-ft torque. This incredibly powerful power is paired with a new bentley key suspension that provides Bentley's trademark smooth ride.

Bentley has released a special specification for cars manufactured after 2019 to celebrate its centenary. This is referred to as the Centenary Specification. The cabin is decorated with cross-stitching as well as contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. Function

It is lightweight and durable, and it fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar to the Volkswagen Phaeton's massive car key, but it feels heavier and more luxurious.

It also comes with Secure-A-Key, which helps prevent theft of keys with no key. This device is inserted into the remote-control key fob. It disables it after a few minutes of inactivity. This prevents thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that could unlock and start the vehicle.

Personalisation

Bentley key fob programming's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to create their own vehicle. The guests sit at a collection of pictures referred to as "mood stations" and pick a set of photos - from scenic vistas to sporting events - that can inspire them. Every time a choice is made the pattern that emerges is the model, color and style preferences for the customized Bentley.

The guests are given an individual key case created by hand, which contains the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Keys can be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised welcome lamps that illuminate the way of the opening door with the owner's logo or name as they approach the car.

Bentley estimates that it takes 500 man-hours on average to build and construct a Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace modern technology is the key to this lengthy and laborious process. Instead of employing a machine for spacers to the perfectly matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Instead of letting the car's built-in sensors guide it to parallel and perpendicular parking spaces the drivers must perform the task by hand.

In the course of the event, Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization options with a special example of the Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to the founder William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars come with a key that displays an item from the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
