How to Replace an replacement audi car key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

smart-logo.pngIf this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top cost of audi key replacement each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is most likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues with your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission of your Audi because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine of the car is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. There should be the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas. This is the same across the audi etron key Car key Cover, singnalsocial.com, 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
