In the field of linguistics, the DCT has become one of the most important tools to analyze learners' behavior in communication. Participants were 46 CLKs of upper intermediate level who answered MQs, DCTs, and RIs. They were also required to provide reflections on their opinions and refusals in RIs. They did this despite the fact that they could create patterns that resembled native ones. They were aware of their practical resistance. They attributed their choice to learner-internal variables such as their identities and personalities as well as multilingual identities. They also referred to external factors, such as relational affordances. They outlined, for instance, how their interactions with their professors helped them to function more easily in terms of the linguistic and cultural standards of their university.

The interviewees expressed their concern about the social pressures and penalties they could be subject to if their local social norms were not followed. They were concerned that their native interlocutors may view them as "foreigners" and think they were ignorant. These findings suggest that native-speaker pragmatic norms are no longer the preferred choice of Korean learners. They may remain useful as a model for official Korean proficiency tests. But it would be prudent for future researchers to revisit their applicability in specific situations and in different cultural contexts. This will help them better understand the effect of different cultures on the behavior of students and classroom interactions of L2 students.
