Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.

In 1999, the band released Mindfields and embarks on an extensive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
