Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an ode to the classic sextet format, and a more consistent, stronger effort with a harder edge. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature.
