Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an attempt to return to the traditional sextet style and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort with a harder edge. Its more punk-rock sound was indicative of the maturation of group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's greater ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard skills were also more sophisticated, sharper and less akin to previous recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the band recorded their Amsterdam live show which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The studio album came out shortly after, and the group embarked on a world-wide tour in support of it. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to discover songs that had never been recorded prior to. It was released as a double-album titled Then and Now in 2001. By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity.
