Private ADHD Titration

There is a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service is private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes a thorough medical history, and an assessment using the standard ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

Following your assessment you will be advised if medication is considered to be beneficial in your particular situation. This will happen at your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person, via video link or by telephone). Your doctor will explain what medication options are available and, if you choose to begin taking medication, we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks and involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to titrate three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is crucial that parents participate in the titration and be aware of their child's behavior so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed you will be able to make appointment with your psychiatrist, if appropriate. Usually the appointment will take place on zoom video call, although in certain cases it might be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

In this session, we'll discuss treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose, as well as any adverse effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The doctor will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms have on your life, as well as any relationship issues you might be facing or any other mental health problems that you may be suffering from. ADHD is a genetic condition, so it's important to assess your family history to determine if you're at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

During this assessment it is crucial that you are truthful and open with the doctor in the sense that they will use the information you provide to determine whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a vital part of the process, because if you don't do it, it could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you have decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this field. This can be done in the wake of your diagnosis if you want to start treatment immediately or within two weeks if you would like more time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the possibilities available to you.

If you aren't sure which one you prefer We suggest you speak to your GP prior to booking your private adhd titration appointment as certain providers have different rules regarding whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also recommend to confirm that your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement that means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be referred back to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who want a private diagnosis of ADHD medication is a key part of their journey. The process of getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be a hassle and lengthy. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that offers an assessment that is private adhd titration and the titration. This will cut down your waiting time considerably and can be more convenient if you are working and have a hectic schedule.

If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment the doctor you choose will evaluate you and determine whether or not you're required to be monitored for a dose of medication. You'll have to complete forms that vary by doctor but the most frequent ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories that go to childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician determine any issues that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, this will usually consist of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to find the most suitable combination for you, taking into account any current conditions you suffer from. The titration procedure can be long and may require several extra appointments before the dose becomes stable.

Based on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician making sure that you are stable on the medication, logging any side effects you have had and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You will also be required to undergo a regular health check that may include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight as well as an annual review.

Some patients may be content with their treatment and do not have to discuss their titration process further. If you're looking to discuss your titration period adhd plan or treatment plan further, it is possible that you'll be referred back to the private clinic that performed your initial evaluation. If this happens, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fee, and they will receive their medication via an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than a prescription from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
